July Activities

Finals

Six applicants became new CEO members this month. They called their batch "Batch Firewall". It stood for the organization's protection (like what firewalls do) from fires such as internal and external organization problems. Their finals took place at Pansol, Calamba City last July 12, 2008.

Annual Induction Ball
The Organization's Annual Induction Ball was held last July 19, 2008 at Diner's Dreemhaus Banquet. The occasion was held to induct the new Board of Directors, new alumni, new members and the new Executive Committee of the Organization. The members wore their most formal attire and practiced how an "executive" should behave. The occasion
was attended by the resident members and four alumni.

Accomplished in June

These are the activities that the organization has finished in the month of June.

Campus Tour
About ten members (or more) of the organization volunteered at the Annual Campus Tour that the Office of Student Affairs held last June 15, 2008. During this activity, the members met and toured with the New Freshmen in the University. The courses of the blocs that the members facilitated were BS Biology, BS Forestry and BS Civil Engineering.

almOSAlan, Parade and Welcome Concert
Last June 18, 2008, the organization participated at the activities that OSA prepared to welcome the freshmen. Breakfast was served and Survival Kits were distributed by the members during the almOSAlan which started at 6:00AM that day. The organization also joined the parade at 3:00PM that started at the Humanities Building and ended at the front of Baker Hall. During the night, chosen members participated at the dance presentation that the CEAT organizations prepared.

CE Shirt
A successful release of the BSCE 2008 shirts was also accomplished in June. Starting from June 26, a BSCE 2008 shirts booth will be set-up at Vega Centre every Thursdays.

Orientation

Another successful activity of the organization was the CEO orientation (held on June 24, 2008 at Chowking Vega Centre). Orientees from batch 2006 to 2008 participated in the said event. Prof. Jean Loyola, one of CEO's founding advisers, presented a speech before the orientees and the goal of the organization, that is to introduce CEO to the other BSCE students of UPLB, was achieved.

Team Building Activity

A bonding activity that served as both a team building activity and a sem starter activity was held on June 28, 2008 at the Freedom Park. Headed by Batch Pedestal, the organization enjoyed parlor games and enhanced their understanding about the importance of each member of the organization and the true value of unity.

To all the members of CEO, Congratulations and keep up the good work!

...The Second Semester Activities of the Org...

The second semester activities of the organization includes the following:

MEDICAL-DENTAL MISSION - this is where the members of the organization assist the dentists and doctors who give free medical and dental check-ups and free medicines to the less fortunate people of Mayondon every December

ENGINEERING MEET - a sports and cheer dance competition participated by all the organizations in the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology

EXECUTIVES' CHALLENGE - an Engineering Science Quiz Contest participated by different universities in the Philippines.

These activities are just few examples of the organization's activities. As of now, the organization is still striving to achieve excellence in all its activities and doing its best to achieve its goal of offering more service to God, to the University and to the Country.

...The Special Committees...

This year, the Executive Committee has decided to create Special Committees that will address certain needs of the organization. The "Special Committees" was conceptualized when they saw that some concerns of the organization have vague designations. They were either not assigned to or were not exclusive to any standing committee, causing havoc in mobilization. The members in these special committees were chosen by the Executive Committee based on the member's abilities and those who will volunteer themselves.

There are three special committees created this school year, the E-Communications Team (E-Comm), the Ruby Tuesday and the Constitution Amendment Team (Consti Team).

E-Communications Team:

This team will be in-charge of the organization's publicity paraphernalia in the World Wide Web. They will design, update and maintain the organization's official website (http://uplb-ceo.org.ph), blog (http://uplb-ceo.blogspot.com) and forums (http://uplb-ceo.tk). This way, the concerned public--UPLB constituents or otherwise--and our dear alumni will be updated with the latest Org events and activities stashed with articles, pictures and videos for their curiousity tanks.

Ruby Tuesday:
(Why the name? Think--Mafia! The members of the organization are professionals yet they certainly know what F-U-N is! )

The organization had its share of financial shortcomings. One cause of this is the lack of supervision in solicitations of our members. To overcome this, the Ruby Tuesday was created to be in-charge of initiating, conceptualizing and monitoring the solicitations and sponsorships of the organization. They will create different solicitation and sponsorship proposals (or packages) depending on sectors--alumni, big companies, small businesses in LB, politicians and other UPLB student organizations--and they will hold workshops for members to overcome shyness during follow-ups especially with calls.

Constitution Amendment Team:

Last semester, the resident members had their Constitution Reading and gave feedbacks on our Constitution. The Consti Team will create the proposed Constitution for the next school year, AY2009-2010, with the approval of the alumni. For the whole school year, AY2008-2009, they will conceptualize the constitution, create its physical representation, present it to the resident members, review and revise it before the Executive Committee will finally present it to the Alumni and get their consent.

...Anniversary Week Activities...

The Anniversary Week consists of a set of activities. Activities of the said celebration include:

Exhibit - showcases the organization throughout the years as well as the different aspects and innovations in the field of civil engineering

PaloCEbO - a general information quiz contest open to all UP students

Open Tambayan – an activity wherein the organization serves free lunch to all UP students and engineering faculty who would come to their "tambayan" during the Open Tambayan schedule, allowing a venue for interaction amongst teachers and students

Symposium - seminar open to all civil engineering students that aims to introduce the various fields of civil engineering that one can opt to endeavor on after college

Toothpick Challenge/Vertical Limit - contest that aims to bring out the ability of engineering students to apply the various theories and principles taught in their ES subjects

Thanksgiving Mass - a venue for the members of the organization to reflect and thank God for all the blessings each and every member of the organization has received in the past years

Outreach – a social oriented activity that aims to help the less fortunate children of KIBO children’s house

Alumni Homecoming- aims to bring together the alumni and current resident members of the organization

All these activities provide experiences and enjoyment not only for the members but also to the other constituents of UPLB.

...The First Semester Activities of the Org...

During the first sem, starting from the first day of school, the organization already does activities and starts the training for its members. Some of these activities are:

almOSAlan AND CAMPUS TOUR - an activity of the Office of Student Affairs in University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) participated in by the different organizations in the University which aims to welcome freshman students to the University and to their respective Colleges as well.

CEO CUP - a sports fest open to all freshman and sophomore engineering students that aims to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship through healthy and fair competition held every 1st semester. This sports fest was started on July of AY 2004-2005 during that time, the only sport that was played was basketball. A year later, volleyball was added in the sports fest.

ANNIVERSARY WEEK - this is a week-long celebration (usually done in September) wherein the organization celebrates its years of existence in the university.

...The Purpose of CEO...

The Civil engineering Executive Organization was structured in order to fulfill objectives which are all related to excellence, professionalism, camaraderie, integrity and service. Throughout its almost eight years of glorious existence, it broadens the knowledge and understanding of the public about civil engineering and its related fields, it prepares and develops its members for excellence in academics, service and leadership in industry and society, and it promotes civil engineering as a viable course and profession. The organization also strengthens the relationship among its members and actively participates in college and university activities. Besides this, the organization also creates a venue for personal and social development of its members that helps them become responsible engineers.

...CEO History...

The organization was founded on June 29, 2000 by Engr. Raymond delos Santos, Engr. John Raymond Dequina, Engr. Charlemagne Cruz and Mr. Oliver Vincent Cutamora. With the help of Dr. Jean Loyola and Prof. Rolando Maningas who became their founding advisers and their belief that there is a need for an alternative organization that would make a difference in the field of Civil Engineering, the 4 founders, together with the 19 charter members, established the Civil engineering Executive Organization with the hopes of moulding its present and future members into becoming socially responsible Civil Engineers of great value to the society.
